The variety is quite productive, highly tolerant to cold, highly susceptive to citrus scab. The rootstock currently used is Trifoliate orange. The variety contains lines of large-fruit, smallfruit, osmanthus-like calyx, and early-maturity by long-time clonal selection.

The variety is relatively early-fruiting and productive. Sour pummelo is used as its rootstock.

Leaf 13.5~14.6cm×5.5~6.3cm in size, long-ovate, margin shallowly dentate; petiole wing large, cordate. Large flower, self-incompatible, strongly parthenocarpic, requires no artificial pollination. Fruit obovoid to pyriform, smooth, light green-yellow when picked around the mid-autumn festival and golden yellow at maturity; 16.9cm×15.7cm in size; apex truncate or slightly depressed with conspicuous areole ring; slightly easy to peel. TSS 9.0%~12.0%, acid 0.6%~1.0%; seedless. Pulp is sweet, slightly acidic. Maturity period ranges from October to mid November. The variety is early in fruiting and maturing, very productive and becomes one of the major and famous pummelos in China. It can become marketable during the mid-autumn festival. Fruit storing quality is not as well as Shatianyou since the juice vesicle is prone to granulation. Common rootstock is Sour pummelo. Hongroumiyou has been selected out by Institute of Fruit Tree Research, Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

Artificial pollination is required to achieve high yield. Fruit pyriform or cucurbit, orangeyellow, 13.5~15.0cm×16.5~17.5cm in size; apex truncate or slightly depressed with irregular areole ring, the inside of the ring slightly protruded; base longnecked or short-necked, the short-necked fruit has better quality. Rind mediumthick, somewhat difficult to peel. TSS 12.8%~16.0%, acid content 0.4%~0.5%. Pulp crisp and tender with rich sweet flavor. 60~120 seeds per fruit. Matures in middle to late November. Shatianyou is one of the major and the most famous pummelo varieties in China. Fruit stores and ships well. Sour pummelo is commonly used as its rootstock.

TSS 11.0%~13.0%, acid 0.8%~1.1%. 8~15 seeds per fruit. Juicy and fragrant. Maturity period ranges from late November to early December. The variety is comparatively adaptable and productive, flavor rich, of medium or higher quality, tolerant to storage and shipment, and good for fresh consumption and juice processing. Common rootstocks are Trifoliate orange and Sanhuhongju.
